Equipment
- Big bowl
- Cup
- Plate
- Tablespoon
Ingredients
- 1 large onion, cut in half
- 12-ounce packages of vegetarian ground beef substitute
- 1/4 cup of breadcrumbs
- 1 big egg (Optional)
- 1 tbsp garlic powder (divided)
- Black pepper and salt to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil (divided)
- 1-cup worth of fresh, sliced mushrooms
- 1 3/4 cups of vegetable broth
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup vegan Worcester sauce
- 2 tsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp. Of vegetable stock
Instructions
- Cut an onion in half and save the slices for later. The other half of the onion should be minced and put in a big bowl.
- Combine the minced onion with the ground beef substitute, bread crumbs, egg, half of the garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Combine all of the ingredients by hand. Separate into 4 even portions.
- Heat half the olive oil on medium. Brown patties for 3 minutes per side. Plate the burgers.
- Mushrooms, onion slices, and olive oil go on the pan. The onion should become translucent after 5 minutes of stirring and cooking.
- Stir in the remaining garlic powder, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and 1 3/4 cups vegetable broth. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer the patties for about 10 minutes at low heat after returning them to the pan so that the insides are no longer pink.
- Take the burgers out and plate them. Create a slurry by combining the cornstarch with the 2 tablespoons of vegetable broth. The sauce needs 2 to 3 minutes of cooking time with constant stirring to thicken. Sprinkle the finished burgers with the hot sauce.
